The design-build-finance project for the new maintenance center includes a group of buildings with a surface area of around 9,135 m² and a rail yard, on a site of around 132,000 m². The facilities include a daytime garage, a heavy maintenance workshop for AMT rolling stock, an inspection and service building, an automatic train wash and administrative areas.
The solutions developed are focused on low construction and maintenance costs, in order to present the most competitive engineering-construction offer. Standardization and prefabrication of structural elements are used extensively, for savings in materials and installation, quality control and ease of subsequent expansion. This performance approach is also in line with the desire to integrate as many sustainable building elements as possible into the project, based on LEED certification criteria.
The entry and exit of locomotives in workshops generates significant quantities of toxic fumes. The behavior of fumes and pollutants has been precisely modeled to ensure the daily well-being of employees while minimizing energy use. Thanks to optimized volumes and systems, the design enables ambient conditions to be restored in less than 30 minutes after locomotive operation.
