Embracing the values of the Cree Nation, this multi-residential project consists of 80 housing units designed to meet the essential needs of the Waskaganish community. The architecture draws inspiration from the Shaputuan, a traditional structure that fosters a welcoming, human-scale environment. A traditional tipi, artworks by local artists displayed throughout the site, and a beautifully adorned façade all contribute to a strong visual identity, celebrating cultural heritage and creating a deep connection with the community.
Functionally, the Y-shaped structure of the building centralizes common and support areas, fostering social interaction and a vibrant, harmonious community life. Inspired by ecological principles, the architectural approach is grounded in sustainable development, resulting in infrastructure that respects both the environment and the people living on the land.
The pavilion-style layout maximizes visual openings, creating a strong connection between users and nature. This type of configuration also allows the built environment to blend harmoniously into the landscape. The wood-frame structure not only brings a warm and inviting atmosphere to the project, but also complies with regulations concerning combustible materials. Internal pathways are designed to ensure smooth circulation while providing optimal comfort for residents. In the end, these new multi-residential spaces are truly places where people feel at home.
